A common question…

“Are you a PCP Dr. Nelson?”

Yes, but it is a tiny bit complicated. As an ND, I am legally allowed to do everything a PCP in the State of Oregon can do. I can prescribe medication, order labs and imaging, make referrals, and manage patient care. I do all of those things in my practice.

The complicated part is that most insurance companies consider me a specialist, which may result in different copays. It is tricky to become a PCP for insurance, and I have not been in a position to do so. This is why I do not say I am one in my paperwork; it is a legal thing.

I am a one-woman show, so some patients will have a larger PCP home to manage things that I cannot do with my current practice, such as vaccines, testing for strep, the flu, or Covid, etc. I will then manage most of their care.
