THE FAT NATUROPATH

Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon

Naturopathic medicine gives us the tools to work with your body's own capacity for healing, while holding space for everything that makes your experience uniquely yours.

As your provider, I look at the whole picture and build sustainable support. We will always move at your pace and supports along the way.

Your care may include:

  • A thorough, unhurried health intake

  • Lab work based on your specific needs and history

  • Nutritional and lifestyle support that meets you where you are — without judgment or rigidity

  • Appropriate naturopathic and conventional treatments

  • Strategies for nervous system support and resilience

  • Coordination with other members of your care team

  • Body-informed perspective drawn from 15+ years of massage therapy practice

If you are seeking care that takes your full humanity seriously and sees chronic and complex conditions with curiosity rather than frustration, works within a Health At Every Size® framework, acknowledges the role of systemic barriers in health, and holds space without judgment, we may be a good fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you be my primary care provider?

As a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Oregon, I can prescribe medications, order labs and imaging, make referrals, and manage ongoing patient care and regularly do these things in my practice.

However, many insurance companies classify NDs as specialists rather than primary care providers, which can affect your copay structure.

For this reason, I don't formally designate myself as a PCP in patient paperwork - it's a legal and billing distinction, not a reflection of the scope of care I provide.

Because I am a solo practitioner, some patients benefit from maintaining a relationship with a larger primary care practice for services I'm not currently set up to offer in-office, including vaccines and rapid testing for strep, flu, or COVID. Within that arrangement, I typically manage the majority of their ongoing care.

If you're unsure whether this kind of collaborative setup would work for your situation, I'm happy to talk it through.

Are you accepting new patients?

  • “My ability to self advocate increases day by day, thanks to the work I’ve done with Dr. Nelson. I feel seen and understood in our discussions. Her insight into the issues I raise is always thoughtful, compassionate, and on point. Her advice has positively influenced both my physical and mental health, and I am excited to continue learning from her."
